Junks. Garbage. Rubbish. Trash. Litter. Whatever you want to call it, they are all around us.
And you know what?
It takes tremendous amount of resources to collect, dispose and recycle the trash that we produce on daily basis. Literally millions of dollars are allocated and spent on such enormous tasks.
Besides the tremendous financial implications that it imposes on us, litter also wreaks havoc on our beautiful environment. It also threatens our health in many different ways that you may not be aware of.
Yes, this problem is not for the light of heart and requires large organization and funds to solve. However, if we all chip in and help clean up the litters, it will go a long way in eradicating the filth that litters the streets and highways of our beautiful state and country.
As with most multi-symptomatic problems, prevention is the key to minimizing the rise of the problems. That means, do not litter, ever! It may be tempting to toss out that soda pop can or a fast food wrapper out to the street. Yes, we’ve all thought about it. However, by recycling the garbage and not littering, you are contributing to the beauty of our environment.
You can also help raise awareness in this issue by talking to your friends, family and colleagues about the importance of not littering and keeping our environment clean. Participate and volunteer is various clean up events and projects in schools and communities.
But most importantly, keep in mind that when it comes to littering, a little prevention goes a long way.
